Udupi, Jul 14: Non-stop rains, thankfully not accompanied by gales, have been pouring in both the twin districts over the past two days.

School-going children and office-goers faced inconvenience. Rains continued practically throughout Thursday night with short breaks intermittently.

Kaup and Yermal are two of the worst affected by rain-related damage by way of erosion and floods.


These images show the rising water level around the houses on the shore and breakwater work going on to contain the damage from the powerful waves.

  • In Petri-Cherkady, a house belonging to scheduled Marathi tribe family, collapsed, causing loss of over Rs 1 lac.
  • Varahi river is overflowing and rains have disrupted life in Basrur, Balkur, Anagalli, Hattikudru, Kandlur, Amparu and other places.
  • River Sowparnika is also overflowing and Navunda, Byndoor and surrounding places have been affected.
  • In Kundapur too, a tree got uprooted at Hanglur and blocked the traffic on th highway for some time.
  • Soil erosion has been experienced in Hoode near Kemmannu also.
