`Give technical education to minorities, modernise madrassas'

New Delhi, June 9 (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee said Monday the government would provide technical education to minorities and launch a modernisation programme for madrassas.

Addressing the joint session of parliament, the president said it was unfortunate that despite several decades after independence several minority communities continued to suffer from neglect.

He said the youth of minority communities would be provided technical education and the government would initiate steps for modernisation of madrassas.

He also referred to the disabled people, saying the government would chalk out special steps for the welfare and education of specially-abled people.

"Will take steps to provide dignity of life to facilitate their participation in all walks of life. The government will take steps to identify the special needs of disabled people and provide institutional help."
