Panaji, Jun 14: Taking strong exception to speaker's decision not to allow electronic media telecast assembly proceedings other than question hour, during the ongoing state assembly session, the opposition benches created noisy scenes forcing the speaker to adjourn the house for a day.
The BJP legislators rushed to the well of the house twice protesting against speaker's decision. Initially, the speaker adjourned house for half an hour when noisy scenes began after question hour was over.
Later when the house assembled again, the opposition benches continued their protest inside the well, forcing the speaker to adjourn the house for a day.
The Speaker, in his ruling on Thursday, had disallowed the electronic media from teleacasting ongoing state legislative assembly proceedings except question hour. The speaker had cited that certain unparliamentary words which were uttered in the assembly during heated discussions and later not (not) taken on record, were being telecasted by electronic media.
The noise began after the question hour when opposition BJP legislators rushed to the well of the house shouting anti-speaker slogans.
The issue cropped up today during zero hour when BJP legislator Manohar Asgaonkar asked Speaker to quote the rule under which he has given the ruling. To this, the speaker, told the opposition members that they can't challenge ruling of the chair and decline to entertain the issue.
