12 dead from ebola in Sierra Leone


Freetown, June 10 (IANS): At least 12 people have been reported killed from the ebola disease, Sierra Leone's health ministry said Monday.

The government has recorded 109 suspected cases of which 42 are confirmed, Xinhua quoted the ministry as saying in a statement. 

Two of those killed were staff members of the local health clinic in Kailahun, a district in the Eastern province of Sierra Leone.

Ebola virus disease or ebola hemorrhagic fever is caused by ebola viruses. Symptoms start two days to three weeks after contracting the virus with a fever, throat and muscle pains, and headaches. There is then nausea, vomiting and diarrhea along with decreased functioning of the liver and kidneys.
