Ukraine to create safe corridors for civilians to flee


London, June 10 (IANS): Ukraine's newly-elected President Petro Poroshenko ordered the creation of safe corridors for people to flee violence hot areas, media reported Tuesday.

In a statement, Poroshenko said that ministers have been ordered to set up "all necessary conditions for civilians who want to leave", BBC reported.

Poroshenko in another statement Monday said the ongoing violence in the eastern regions of Ukraine should end by this week.

Russia had called for the creation of a corridor for the safe exit of civilians from the conflict-torn eastern regions of Ukraine.

Poroshenko met Russian President Vladimir Putin Friday at the D-Day commemorations in France.

According to officials, violence between Ukrainian forces and the pro-Russian militants has left more than 200 people dead till date.

The tensions still continue in Sloviansk and Donetsk.
