BJP's agenda in president's address copy of our plans: Congress

New Delhi, June 10 (IANS): The Congress Tuesday said the BJP's agenda mentioned in the president's address to the joint sesion of both houses of parliament was a copy of its plans.

Participating in the debate on the motion of thanks on the president's address, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad said the Congress is prepared to play the role of a constructive opposition.

Azad said most of the programmes mentioned in the address of President Pranab Mukherjee were started and executed by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

"The speech is a copied document, but you could have hired someone with better command on English to change the language of the document. Of the programmes mentioned in this speech, 90 percent of work in most of them has already been done by our government," Azad said in the Rajya Sabha.

The address of the president at the beginning of parliament session after a new Lok Sabha is elected - a constitutional necessity - is a document forwarding the new government's agenda.

"There is nothing in the speech that can create a 'shreshta Bharat' (superior India). The slogan 'sabka sath sabka vikas' (taking everyone together for development) is a simple translation of Manmohan Singh's inclusive development programme," Azad said.

Taking a jibe at the ruling party, Azad said: "Mandate, power and money never stick with one person, it keeps shifting from one hand to other."

Azad also said the Congress would play a "constructive opposition" and the "Congress is a responsible political party, one of the oldest in the world. You (BJP) may have got larger mandate than us, but our policies and programmes were, are, and will always be for the people".

"We are proud of our work under (former) prime minister Manmohan Singh," Azad added.

Rather than accepting the verdict of the people, these congress members have again shown their true color. What is the point of arguing whose agenda it is now? There was no implementation of any in the last several decades. All they have to show for is corruption, corruption and more corruption.

These goons still do not know what hit them and are still in denial mode.

If they act this way, soon the party will be non-existent by the next LS elections.

Guys come out of the election hangover. Election is over result over,Government formation is over. Now let us us see how government works.

Its natural opposition parties will criticize when government do something wrong.

It is right given to the opposition by constitution.

In election win and lose is common. After 5 years(May be before that????) this may reverse also.

Correct. Garibi Hatao is Indira Gandhis's slogan of 1971. Unfortunately after 43 years (of which congress ruled for about 35 years) we still need this slogan.

Finally a depleted Congress leader has come out to speak and it turned out to be yet another joke from the ever diminishing Congress and may be this leader is following on the footsteps of their vice president Rahul Gandhi who is been called as a joker by few!

Congress Party may be good in planning but when it comes to uting those plans they are a big ZERO. Yes one thing is sure, they are preparing for playing the role of a constructive opposition, which is the only role they have left with. One of the oldest party of India on the verge fading out from Indian Politics. It is certain that Congress will not come back into power for a minimum of 10 years from now! I think no need for BJP to copy Congress books, but it is most likely that Congress needs to copy from BJP how to play a role of a constructive opposition. Acheh Din Ayenge!

Yes Mr. Azad, “of the programmes mentioned in President’s speech, 90 percent of work in most of them has already been done by your government”. It is very clear from the election result and that’s why congress party got 44 seats in parliament.

We were aware that congress is prepared to play the role of a constructive opposition after the election, when it made Rahul Gandhi as their campaign leader.
