Germany's Reus out for three months

Dortmund, June 11 (IANS): Borussia Dortmund footballer Marco Reus will be sidelined for longer than expected as his injury is worse than initially thought.

Further examination revealed that the attacking midfielder did not only partially tear a ligament in his left ankle but also "suffered damage to the heel bone with an expected recovery time of about three months", according to club doctor Markus Braun, reports Xinhua.

Reus had to write off his World Cup dreams at Germany's warm up match against Armenia, a day ahead of the departure to Brazil. Germany celebrated a 6-1 victory but the "Nationalelf" lost Reus in the first half when he twisted his left ankle awkwardly and was unable to continue.

It was, at first, expected that Reus would be out of action for 7-8 weeks. But as it stands, the 25-year-old will return in September.
