Mangalore Jul 19: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has come up with a unique idea to create awareness about road safety among the driving licence applicants. If taken seriously by the applicants and pushed hard by the authorities themselves, this innovative method will surely play a major role in reducing road mishaps, accidents which have become almost a part and parcel of life district residents.
The two-hour classes through audio-video visuals provide the applicants with useful tips on road safety and related matters. Experts in traffic management and road safety from the department give special lectures well before driving licence test.
A special hi-tech class room has been set up at the basement section for this innovative and meritorious mission. The cautionary and mandatory road signals, signs and other facets of safe driving are provided to the applicants in this two-hour classes.
When asked about this novel mission RTO H N Ramesh said: “The applicants, some of them just out of college, need to be given an insight into the impact of road accidents on the victims. In the modern world, mobility has become essential."
He further said that Ramesh said the classroom atmosphere had done a lot of good to the applicants with many youth realizing the importance of safe driving.
