Indian shot dead in Philippines by motorcycle thieves

Manila, June 18 (IANS): An Indian national has been shot dead in the Philippines by suspected motorcycle thieves.

Surinder Singh was on his way to collect money from his debtors at Kabacan of North Cotabato province Tuesday when he ws attacked, the Inquirer online reported Wednesday.

Singh was driving his motorcycle in Barangay Kayaga when he was flagged down by unidentified men.

Jordaine Maribojo, the Kabacan town police chief, said witnesses told investigators that one of the men without saying any word pumped bullets into Singh, using a .45 calibre pistol.

Singh, who became the fourth victim of fatal “motorcycle theft” activities in the town since the start of the year, instantly died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Maribojo said the suspects then disappeared with Singh's motorcycle.

“We are looking into motorcycle theft as the motive behind the killing, since the suspects only carted away his motorcycle. His personal belongings, as well as his daily collections were intact,” Maribojo was quoted as saying.
