Mumbai, June 19: The postmen of three post offices of Vile Parle East met MLA Krishna Hegde on Thursday June 19 morning and informed him that in spite of several follow ups they have not received bags to carry their post delivery.
The delivery of above 500 envelopes a day including shares, electricity bills, mobile bills, bank statements has to be delivered by each of the 150 postmen everyday.
The postmen have not received uniforms since 2012 and the postwomen have not received sarees. The postwomen are working in civil clothes.
Of the 150 postmen who work outdoors, 20 are women. Since the past three years the staff has not even got footwear; the men have received only one pair of shirt and pant a year and the budget is Rs 195 only.
Bags costing Rs 500 are torn and have not been replaced since four years. The budget sanctioned for these basic amenities have lapsed.
MLA Hegde has written to previous chief postmaster general Mishra to renovate the post and telegraph colony in Sahar.
"The chief postmaster general confirmed that Rs 2 crores has been sanctioned but the employees are yet to see any money or improvement. Postmen who work in sun and rain do not even have an umbrella," said Hegde.
