High temperatures return to Punjab, Haryana


Chandigarh, June 20 (IANS): With Hisar reeling at 44 degrees Celsius in Haryana and Punjab's industrial hub Ludhiana nearly as sweltering at 43.2 degrees, high temperatures were seen at most places across Punjab and Haryana, Met officials said here Friday.

However, the meteorological department has forecast rain and thundershowers at various places across both states in the coming three days. Officials indicated that maximum temperatures could drop over the next 72 hours. 

Chandigarh registered a high of 41 degrees, four degrees above what is normal for this time of the season.

Ambala and Karnal in Haryana recorded highs of 42 and 42.6 degrees respectively, five and six degrees above normal.

In Punjab, Sikh holy city Amritsar recorded a high of 42.9 degrees, five degrees above normal. Patiala had a high of 42.6 degrees.
