15 militants killed in Pakistan

Islamabad, June 24 (IANS): At least 15 militants were killed Tuesday in separate clashes with Pakistani security forces, media reported.

According to security officials, five militants were killed in North Waziristan's Mir Ali tehsil, Dawn online reported.

The other 10 militants were killed in Khyber Agency's Meraban Koki Khel area where four hideouts were also destroyed.

Pakistani army launched operation "Zarb-i-Azb" in the tribal region of North Waziristan, a week after an attack on Karachi's Jinnah International Airport, deploying troops, tanks and jets to crackdown on Taliban and other terrorists.

Over 300 militants have been killed since the start of the operation and many hideouts destroyed, the report said.

After the launch of the operation, at least 430,000 people have fled the North Waziristan region into nearby areas of Pakistan as well as neighbouring Afghanistan, the biggest movement of refugees in Pakistan in years.
