Delhi Congress protests against rail fare hike

New Delhi, June 24 (IANS): The Congress party's Delhi unit Tuesday protested here against the central government's decision to hike rail fares.

Led by Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely, party workers halted a train for some time at Palam railway station in southwest Delhi.

"We demand that the government roll back the fare hike," Delhi Congress spokesperson Mukesh Sharma said.

The workers also burnt an effigy of Union Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda.

The Narendra Modi government recently announced a hike in rail fares - a move which drew flak from all political parties.
