Ashwani Kumar quits as Nagaland governor

Kohima, June 25 (IANS): Nagaland Governor Ashwani Kumar Wednesday submitted his resignation but it was not immediately clear if the resignation has been accepted, an official here said.

He is the third UPA-appointed governor to quit after his counterparts in Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh -- B.L. Joshi and Shekhar Datt, respectively -- tendered their resignation last week.

"He (Ashwani Kumar) has submitted his resignation to President Pranab Mukherjee but there is no confirmation if his resignation has been accepted," a senior government official told IANS on condition of anonymity.

Ashwani Kumar, 62, a former Himachal Pradesh police chief who also worked with the elite Special Protection Group, was sworn-in as Nagaland governor March 21, 2013.
