No clear guidelines on DU admissions: College principal

New Delhi, June 26 (IANS): Admissions to Delhi University are yet to begin because the colleges have not received any guidelines from the varsity, the principal of a Delhi University college said Thursday.

On Wednesday, the University Grants Commission that oversees higher education institutions in the country asked DU to start admitting students under the three-year under-graduate course "immediately".

"Till now, we have not received any communication from DU, so the admissions cannot start," said the principal of a well-known college in south Delhi.

The 10-member standing committee constituted by the UGC will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday. The committee was set up to advise DU on the migration or changeover from the four-year under-graduate programme to a three-year course.

A total of 78 colleges are affiliated with the university, and 2.7 lakh students have applied for admissions this year.

While the university started a four-year under-graduate programme last year, the UGC has asked it to scrap it and revert to the three-year under-graduate course in keeping with the national education policy of 10 2 3.

The row between DU and the UGC over the continuation of this has put the future of the students seeking for admissions to various colleges at stake.
