Thailand drafts interim constitution

Bangkok, June 27 (IANS): Thai military junta leader General Prayuth Chan-ocha said Friday the drafting of an interim constitution had been completed.

The draft is expected to launch in July, Prayuth said in his weekly televised address, Xinhua reported.

A legislative assembly and an interim government will be set up about a month after the enactment of the interim constitution, he said.

A reform council is set to take shape about two months after the interim charter takes effect and start working from early October, according to the chief of the National Council for Peace and Order.

The reform council will be tasked with implementing reforms in all areas including politics, economy, society, environment, energy and the judicial system, Prayuth said.

A permanent constitution could be launched in July 2015, after which an interim government will spend three months organising elections, he said.
