Amjad Ali Khan's sarod goes missing

New Delhi, June 30 (IANS): Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan Monday lost a prized possession while travelling from London to New Delhi -- a sarod, which he has been playing for the last 45 years.

"After damaging my sarod in 1997, British Airways now misplaces my sarod. 48 hours and I still wait anxiously for some news. Still not traced!" he posted on microblogging site Twitter.

The Padma Vibhushan recipient was travelling on British Airways and the international carrier confirmed the incident.

"We are working round-the-clock to reunite customers with their bags. We are very sorry that this process is taking longer than anticipated and we fully understand the frustration this is causing," British Airways said in a statement.

"Heathrow airport's baggage system in Terminal 5 has experienced a number of problems since Thursday. This has resulted in fewer than expected bags being transported each day. The process of getting the delayed bags onto the next available flight has also been affected," it added.
