UN condemns killing of Russian journalist in Ukraine

United Nations, July 1 (IANS): The UN Monday condemned the killing of a Russian journalist in east Ukraine, urging a "definitive cessation of violence" through a political process.

"All such killings are condemned and that the United Nations had made clear the need to allow all journalists to go about their work without hindrance," Xinhua quoted UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric as saying at a daily news briefing.

Russia's Channel One Television confirmed Monday that one of its journalists died in eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk.

This is the third case of journalists being killed in the deadly conflict in eastern Ukraine between insurgents and government troops.

Two Russian journalists from the All-Russia State Television and Radio Company (VGTRK) were killed June 17, while an Italian photographer and his translator were killed last month.
