Somnath Chatterjee drowsy but stable

Kolkata, July 1 (IANS): The condition of former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee admitted to a private hospital after suffering a cerebral stroke was stable, though he continues to be drowsy, doctors said Tuesday.

"His condition is stable, but he is drowsy and not fully conscious. He is still not able to take food orally. We have done a few tests and will conduct some more to determine presence of any brain infection," attending doctor Subir Mondal told IANS.

Chatterjee was hospitalised Sunday evening.

This is the second time in the last six months that the 84-year-old has been hospitalised.
