New Delhi, Jul 28: India will host the third global meet of the World Culture Forum as part of initiatives to strengthen cultural diversity within the process of globalisation.

The forum will be organised by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and World Culture Forum alliance in January, 2008.

An agreement to this effect was signed today by Director General of ICCR Pawan K Varma and Chairperson WCFA Franz Patay.

The forum, to be held in New Delhi coinciding with the 60th Republic Day celebrations, would be a four-day event.

"It is appropriate that the third global meet would be held in India, a nation which has a rich and diversified civilisational heritage and a plural culture," Patay said after signing the agreement.

The first and the second meets were held in Brazil and Jordan respectively.

"The WCF would consist of conferences, events and a fair showcasing of cultural heritage and craft," Varma said.

Through the WCF we assure to commit ourselves to strengthening the voice of culture in the process of globalisation and to help preserve cultural diversity," he added.
