French ex-president Sarkozy held for questioning

London, July 1 (IANS): Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy Tuesday was held in Paris for questioning over alleged influence peddling.

Sarkozy's lawyer was questioned Monday on suspicion of seeking inside information about a case against the former leader, BBC reported.

Investigators were trying to find out whether Sarkozy, who was the president from 2007 to 2012, had promised a prestigious role in Monaco to a high-ranking judge in exchange for information.
