Modi seeks Singapore's help in housing sector


New Delhi, July 2 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday sought Singapore's assistance for construction of low-cost and affordable housing in India.

During a meeting with K. Shanmugam, Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Law, Modi said his government plans a major thrust in low-cost and affordable housing and sought Singapore's assistance in construction technology for this purpose.

It was also planned at the meeting that a year-long series of events will be held to mark the completion of 50 years of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore.

Both countries were keen the occasion should be celebrated in a way that further expands their canvas of relationship.

Mutual cooperation in developing skill, smart cities, water management, shipping, port management and coastal development were also discussed, an official release here said.

Observing Singapore is one of the top tourist destinations worldwide, Modi suggested Indian states should hold one-month-long special campaigns in Singapore to highlight their tourism potential during the celebrations.
