Ajman, July 2: Founder president Board of Governors Gulf Medical University was conferred with the prestigious Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education at the World Chancellors Congress 2014 held in Mumbai.
The award ceremony was attended by over 300 leaders including chancellors, vice chancellors and eminent educationists, academicians and policy makers from various leading universities from all over the world, including UK, Ireland, Africa, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea.
Chief guest Professor Y K Bhushan, chairman, Federation of Universities, India, conferred the awards.
After receiving the award Moideen said, “I am happy for being honored with this award. It applies more responsibility on me and my team, to continue with the relentless efforts in providing world class education. We are proud to be recognized for our initiatives.”
“The award recognizes the contributions of individuals whose unique efforts have impacted the higher education globally and for providing dedicated service, consistent advocacy and outstanding leadership to the higher education community in a national and/ or international context.” he added.
Thumbay Moideen also spoke about the challenges of establishing a private medical university and teaching hospitals in UAE during the congress session which focused on 'Internationalization of Higher Education in a 21st Century Global Environment: Drivers, Imperatives and prerequisites.' The session was held under the chairmanship of professor Rajan Saxena, vice chancellor of NMIMS Mumbai, India.
The conference provided a forum for university leaders, policy makers, academics, development partners, international scientific and engineering networks and private sector to deliberate on why, what and how to forge ahead in providing solutions to incipient challenges and opportunities. The World Vice Chancellors Congress had a rendezvous in which participants discussed evolving trends in education. The congress examined modern as well as traditional knowledge system. The Congress further explored how education can help develop mental, emotional and physical skills to help facilitate personal excellence as well as psychological and socio – economic wellbeing, in the challenging times the world faces today.
Besides networking opportunities, the conference offered unique in-depth approaches to understanding important academic issues that affect an Institution's viability in today's fast-paced business environment. Deliberations at the highest level aimed to influence the evolving culture of education and educational pedagogy, with the objective of deep systemic change.
