Mumbai, May 9: As India grapples with heightened military tensions following Pakistan’s cross-border attacks, cricketing legend Virat Kohli has sent out a heartfelt tribute to the Indian Armed Forces, lauding their bravery and selfless service. His message came amid widespread panic across cities like Jammu, Pathankot, and several regions in Punjab and Rajasthan, prompting the suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Posting on Instagram, Kohli wrote, “We stand in solidarity with, and salute our armed forces for fiercely protecting our country in these difficult times. We are forever indebted to our heroes for their unwavering bravery and heartfelt gratitude for the sacrifices they and their families make for our great nation.”
The Indian military’s swift and effective response to Pakistan’s missile and drone strikes has drawn admiration from across the nation. Joining Kohli in praise, pacer Jasprit Bumrah shared on X, “Grateful to our armed forces for their courage and bravery. We salute them and remain forever in their debt.”
T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav added, “Massively proud of our forces and their resilience. You are the reason we stay unharmed at our homes. Big salute to your strength and determination in protecting us at borders. Jai Hind.”
The conflict has already impacted national events, with the BCCI halting IPL 2025 matches indefinitely. Thursday’s key encounter between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was called off mid-way as air raid alerts triggered emergency evacuations of players and staff. The match, which could have secured Punjab Kings a playoff spot, was abandoned without altering the points table.
Sources within the BCCI confirmed that consultations are ongoing with government agencies to assess if the tournament can resume, possibly at a neutral venue, once security conditions improve.
Earlier in the day, India’s ODI skipper Rohit Sharma also voiced his support. In a message on X, he applauded the Army, Navy, and Air Force while urging people to “avoid spreading fake news and instead stay united behind our forces during this time of national crisis.”
