Lucknow, Jul 5 : Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dharamvir on Saturday reportedly blamed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the tense atmosphere in Moradabad and said that the problem began after BJP called for mahapanchayat.
He further alleged that BJP MP Sarvesh Singh wanted to polarise the situation ahead of the by-elections to be held in the state.
Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs, General VK Singh commented on the statement and said that any SSP should not make such statements, he should be doing his work.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Sangeet Som said that he was being targeted in the entire incident.
He added that it was the state administration who objected on the issue of loudspeaker in the temple.
The situation continued to be tense in Moradabad's Kanth village a day after clashes between BJP workers, police and villagers.
Police said extensive patrolling was on in the violence-hit areas and urged people to report any problems they face.
Meanwhile, the four Bharatiya Janata Party leaders - Amroha MP Kanwar Singh Tanwar, Rampur MP Nepal Singh and Sambhal MP Satyal Saini, along with Sardhana legislator Sangeet Som - who were detained Friday have been released.
BJP state president Laxmikant Bajpayi has constituted a five-member team to look into the Kanth incident.
BJP legislator Suresh Khanna will head the team and submit a report to the state unit.
There had been tension in Kanth for the past one week after loudspeakers were removed from a temple in the village.
