15 killed in twin attacks in Kenya


Nairobi, July 6 (IANS): At least 15 people were killed and houses torched in twin attacks in Kenya's Lamu and Tana river counties, an official said Sunday.

The official said that gunmen raided Hindi county near Mpeketaoni where they killed nine people before torching several houses, while another group attacked Gamba police station where they killed six people, among them a police officer.

"I can confirm the two attacks which were carried out Saturday night by heavily armed gunmen. Those killed in Hindi were shot and hacked to death," the official told Xinhua.

Last month, attacks in the Lamu area killed at least 60 people, as gunmen descended on hotels and a police station.
