Puttur, Aug 2: A twenty-year-old MESCOM employee was electrocuted while on work at Polya near here on Tuesday August 1.
The deceased has been identified as Ramesh (20), a resident of Madavu.
A contractor by name Abubakkar had undertaken the work of drawing new electricity line at Polya. Ramesh was joining wires climbing the electricity pole. However, ever before the work was over, KPTCL charged the line once again.
As a result Ramesh who was not aware about the line being charged was electrocuted. He was thrown down from the pole and sustained serious injuries. Though he was rushed in to the nearby hospital, he succumbed to injuries on the way.
However, it is not yet known as who gave the orders to charge the line even before the work was completed. The work of drawing new lines or changing the wires is undertaken after taking line clearance (power cut). It is only after the work that message is given to charge the line. However in this case, it is not known as who and why it was told to charge the line when Ramesh was still working on the electricity pole.
The Puttur town police have registered a case in this regard. The police have told that they would take stern actions against those who are responsible for this negligence.
