Gangster with Rs.1 lakh bounty held in Delhi

New Delhi, July 9 (IANS): A 28-year-old gangster, carrying a bounty of Rs.1 lakh on his head, has been arrested here over his involvement in 10 cases of murder and attempt to murder, police said Wednesday.

Ravi Bhardwaj alias Bunty, a resident of Alipur in north Delhi, was arrested Tuesday from the Meerut-Shamli crossing near Karnal in Haryana and was brought to Delhi.

A police official said that Bhardwaj was arrested for the first time by the Delhi Police Crime Branch May 18, 2013 in a case related to the Arms Act.

"As Bhardwaj was also accused of killing the brother of his property business partner May 8, 2013, he could not get bail at that time and was lodged in Tihar jail," the official said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Yadav said Bhardwaj was granted interim bail of seven days April 15, "but he did not come back and jumped the interim bail to eliminate the witnesses in the murder cases".

Yadav said Bhardwaj could not execute his plans as the witnesses were provided protection by police.

Delhi Police later declared a reward of Rs.1 lakh for his arrest.

"Bhardwaj started his career as an electrician and later dabbled in property dealing. In order to earn easy money, he entered the world of crime," Yadav added.
