Green measures mandatory for big buildings: Kolkata civic body


Kolkata, July 12 (IANS): The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has made it mandatory for all buildings constructed on an area measuring 20,000 square metres or more to have solar power units and waste water treatment plants, an official said Saturday.

Besides solar panels, the directive makes it compulsory for such big constructions to have ample green cover and renewable energy sources as well as water recycling facilities and adequate disaster mitigation measures in place.

"Any building constructed on an area of 20,000 square metres or above will need to have solar panels, green cover, waste water treatment facilities," Mayor Sovan Chatterjee said.

The projects will receive clearances only after the steps taken have been intimated in the plans.
