Turkey to help its citizens leave Gaza

Ankara, July 12 (IANS): Turkey said Saturday it will help its citizens leave the Gaza Strip as Israel shows no signs of ceasefire.

The Turkish foreign ministry said in a statement on its website that its diplomatic mission will assist citizens who wanted to leave Gaza as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Friday his country would not bow to international pressure to halt the offensive on the enclave.

The ministry asked Turkish nationals to contact the embassy in Tel Aviv or the consulate in Jerusalem if they wanted to leave Gaza, Xinhua reported.

There are 120 Turks in Gaza, some working for non-governmental organisations and others married to Palestinians.

Since the beginning of the operation, the Israeli army targeted about 1,090 sites in Gaza, bringing the death toll to over 100 people. Dozens of them were civilians, Palestinian officials told local media.
