Hunger strike did not help me: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Jul 12 (PTI): Doing hunger strike did not help me and that is why I finally entered politics, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal told protesting teachers who are sitting on fast unto death here, urging them to end their strike.

A group of teachers from All Guest Teachers Association teaching in different government schools and paid on daily basis, have been sitting on a dharna for around three weeks.

They have been demanding renewal of the services of around 10,200 teachers, increase the age limit to be eligible for selection under the scheme and fix a permanent salary for the group.

A small group among them have called fast unto death unless their demands are met. Kejriwal met them and persuaded them to end the fast.

When the protesting teachers asked what the former Delhi Chief Minister could do for them, he said he could join them on dharna, but this would not help achieve any purpose.

"Hunger strike wont help you. Don't trouble your body. I used to do this for 15 days and then I finally decided to enter politics," Kejriwal told the protesting teachers at Jantar Mantar here.

"It looks like by sitting here you wont get any respite by the BJP government. You should meet the Lt Governor or the Minister."
This assumes significance because Kejriwal's career prior to forming a political party and even while he was the Chief Minister was marked with several dharnas and hunger strikes.

Assuring support to the teachers, he said that while AAP was in power the government had set up a committee to look into this and if his government comes to power he will solve their problems. Kejriwal also took two teachers to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hopsital as their condition was deteriorating.

Interestingly, a section of protesting teachers, somewhat agitated, also questioned Kejriwal on whether he would lead a rally to Lt Governor Najeeb Jung's office, which the teachers have planned. He again extended his support.

"Politicians will keep coming to assure their suport because the elections are round the corner and these parties will indulge in mudslinging. He could have solved our problem while he was the Chief Minister. We are suffering because of the wrong policies of the Delhi government.

"He has promised us to help in front of the media. We told him that if you want to help us, then come and join us in our protest. We will see if he helps us," Deepak Kumar (32), one of the teachers, said.

Right Kejriwalji, Hardcore people don't care for civilized teachers hunger strike!
They should organize mass protest rally, awaken people about their legitimate demands and fight political battle.
That's the only way to get justice or expose the wrong doers nowadays.

If Modi is in power & has total control, its all because of Corrupt congress's wrong policies, wrong approach of governance...! Even after their route in the election, are they acting sensibly? No, still Italian mafia wanna handle the matters!! As far as Modi governance is concerned, we WILL wait and watch...and hope he will deliver the things in positive way and for that we are with him for coming 5 years. If no, he will face the same what corrupt congress faced! Only good point is he will not allow for any corruption in the government.. Policies...need to watch for a while...at least 2-3 years! Bad part is if NDA gone again same corrupt congress will come to power...and this kujliwal is utter nonsense as he trashed everybody's hope while playing childish & entering national level politics...! It would have been good if he concentrate on delhi, give good governance for a term and than enter national level...! but a crook thought other way around!

Hunger strike worked with Mahatma Gandhi cause the British were cultured, They cared about their image.
We know how the Indian politicians are. Vultures will not care if dead or alive as long as they get to eat.

    Dear Kejriwal
India had lot of hopes on you.....until you started your illicit relationship with congress in New Delhi and further proved that your were plan B of congress. The sad part is that you dint realize that congress was in fact using you to plan their move as one by one their weapons were failing to stop Modi. At the end of the day you lost a golden chance of bringing a change in the corrupt system and willingly or unknowingly you fell in trap of the congress dirty game. Atleast if you had stood by your base Delhi, today you would have been a alternate hope in India.
