Monsoon rains lash Delhi, Noida

New Delhi, July 13 (IANS): Heavy rains lashed the Indian capital and its adjoining areas Sunday, ending a scorching heat wave and humidity and bringing joy to millions.

The afternoon downpour quickly pushed down the temperature from the Sunday morning's 30.5 degrees Celsius and flooded many parts of Delhi, causing traffic jams.

Many boys and girls -- and even others -- came out of their homes to get drenched in the first major spell of monsoon rain.

Heavy showers also lashed Noida in western Uttar Pradesh.

Delhi and neighbouring regions had been reeling under a severe heat wave for many days. The maximum temperature Saturday in Delhi was around 42.3 degrees Celsius.
