Kolkata celebrates Germany's World Cup triumph

Kolkata, July 14 (IANS): While a majority of them rooted for Argentina, Kolkatans Monday celebrated Germany becoming the football World champions by lighting fireworks and taking out processions.

Watching the Germany versus Argentina final on giant screens that were set up at many places across the city, hundreds of fans indulged in night-long revelry as soon as Mario Gotze scored the match's solitary goal in extra time to give Germany its first World Cup win in 24 years.

Even as Argentine fans watched in dismay, a large number of German supporters sporting their team jerseys took out motorcycle processions in several parts of the city.

The night sky was illuminated with dazzling fireworks as German flags fluttered in many parts of the city.
