Buenos Aires, July 14 (IANS/EFE): At least 20 people were hurt in a clash with police in Argentina after its 1-0 loss to Germany in the soccer World Cup final in Brazil.
At least 30 people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Despite Argentina's defeat, thousands of fans had gathered near the Obelisk monument in Argentina's capital here to celebrate their team reaching the final, but what began as a peaceful celebration ended up in clashes between the police and a small group of fans that attacked two TV news vans.
The group of disgruntled fans hurled stones at police, who dispersed them with tear gas and water cannon.
Police sources said that more than 30 people were arrested and around 20 were injured, 15 of them police officers, the official news agency Telam reported.
Witnesses said the "uncontrolled sale of alcohol by street vendors" in the area could have provoked the people.
