Brazilian institute launches BRICS statistical publication

Fortaleza (Brazil), July 15 (IANS): The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) Tuesday launched the latest edition of a statistical report for the emerging market bloc of the BRICS group.

The Joint Statistical Publication 2014 was released on the sidelines of the sixth summit of the BRICS group, which consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, Xinhua reported.

The report provides information and data on 15 subjects, including economic and social indicators, population, national accounts, natural resources and environment, industry, energy, and finances.

According to the IBGE, the book results from the efforts of the official statistical agencies of the BRICS countries.

Since 2010, the agencies have been working together to disseminate economic, social and environmental information in their respective countries.

"As Brazil is responsible for implementing the plan of action for the BRICS in the 2014/2015 period, it falls to the IBGE to coordinate the collection of data at national and international levels," the institute said.
