BSF trooper killed in Pakistan firing


Jammu, July 16 (IANS): One Border Security Force (BSF) trooper was killed in unprovoked firing by the Pakistan Rangers at Indian positions along the international border in Jammu district Wednesday.

Three troopers and four labourers were injured in the firing.

"Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing at Pital post of the BSF in Arnia sub-sector of R.S. Pura sector of the international border in Jammu district today (Wednesday)," a BSF source told IANS here.

"Eight people - two junior officers, two constables and four labourers - were injured. One of these, a critically injured trooper identified as constable Sanjay Dhar, has died," he added.

Senior BSF officials have reached the area to take stock of the situation.

The BSF guards the international border in Jammu and Kashmir, while the Line of Control (LoC) is guarded by the army.
