India tops the list of global poor: UN report

New Delhi, Jul 16 (IANS): India tops the list of countries with the largest share of global extreme poor though the poverty rate in southeast Asia as whole saw a substantial fall from 1990 to 2010, a new United Nations report said.

The poverty rate in southeast Asia fell from 45 percent in 1990 to 14 percent in 2010. Although poverty remains widespread in south Asia, progress in the region has been substantial, the Millenium Development Goals Report 2014 said.

However, India had the largest share of global poor at 32.9 percent, more than countries like China, Nigeria and Bangladesh, said the report which was released here Wednesday.

India also had the highest child mortality rate worldwide in 2012 with 1.4 million children dying before reaching their fifth birthday, it said.

In 2012, south Asia accounted for 2.1 million of the 6.6 million deaths in children under five worldwide and with 1.4 million children dying before reaching their fifth birthday, India had the highest child mortality rate worldwide, the report which tracks progress in achieving the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) said.

The eight MDGs, with a number of sub-targets covering a range of poverty, hunger, health, gender equality, education and environmental indicators, were agreed by all countries as an outgrowth of the UN Millennium Summit in 2000, most with a due date of 2015.

"India's role in global development is the most important in the world. The MDGs can't be reached globally if they are not reached here," Lise Grande, United Nations Resident Coordinator for India, said while releasing the report.

"The new post 2015 framework cannot succeed if it does not reflect the aspirations, and does not have the commitment and support of India.

"India's commitment to reach the MDGs has been an inspiration to countries around the world; its leadership now in defining the new framework has never been more important," she added.

The report said south Asia has made great progress on the MDGs, but requires greater efforts to achieve most targets by the end of 2015.

In South Asia, the adjusted net enrolment rate of children of primary school age increased from 80 percent in 2000 to 94 percent in 2012.

However, gender parity in the region is yet to be achieved in Afghanistan and Pakistan - where there are at most nine girls for every ten boys enrolled - and Bangladesh and Nepal - where the gender disparity favours girls.

Poor in India are responsible for population increase. And that increase is also of poor people. The reason is lack of education and awareness. Govt. of India failed in this field. Rajiv Gandhi was right but, his approach was wrong.
Now, don't start blaming Muslims or Hindus. All are equally responsible. Check the demography.

It is known fact India can become rich within no time if good Governance & just law if exists. Let new Govt. bring change.

In spite of India Tops on the global poor, some Industrialists, Politicians and Gangsters in India try to get still rich by squeezing the poor.

They are real heartless, merciless and most SELFISH DEVILISH people on earth.
When they eat in Golden spoon, they AT LEAST ENSURE that poor get 2 square meals PER DAY.

We are first in the list of both billionaires and the poor in the world.
Extreme positions of high mountains and deep valleys are tragedy and misery.
Our obligation is to cut the heights of hills and fill the valleys to construct level roads.
We have the option to enjoy excellent solutions or continue with severe problems.

A simple concept change in vehicles move can give several wonderful solutions.
The opportunity is to save fuel, eliminate pollutions and reduce costs, reduction in oil import bills and fuel subsidies, surplus balance (instead of CAD), availability of huge funds for infrastructure and development, job creation, improvement in health and education, reduction of poverty, peaceful society, stable economy and clean environment, journey towards becoming a developed nation as we dreamt off.
Are we ready to implement a concept change?
If we can offload and feel free, why to pay, carry and suffer?

India may be perhaps the richest country in the world if the humongous amount of hidden wealth stashed away by individuals, institutions in the name of religion Gods etc., and so many other entities is brought into the system!!

It is very sad that the rich are getting greedier and amassing more and more and the poor and have nots are getting poorer thus increasing the rich poor divide!!

Polarization of wealth does not augur for the well being of society!!

Thank you Bro. It is the part which is very much related to a solution for our severe problems. I am repeatedly adding this in all my posts to attract the attention of our professionals and technical personnel, but no one is bothered to look at it.
Though I am a non technical person, I have personally started to prepare a test model with a plan to move 8 to 15 people by using an ordinary bicycle, where it needs no paddling even.
Hopefully, the success of this will give you the clear meaning what I meant in fact.
It will have a huge impact in the surface transport sector and I desperately in need of some help from individuals to carry it forward. Any way Jesus is always with me so nothing to worry much.
    Regards

India tops in global list of black money.
India tops in global list of smartest political leaders.
India tops in global list of Juvenile rapes and adult rapes.
India tops in the global list of pure white wearing politicians and all the black money is belonging to them and yet police and top IAS officers have to selute them.
India tops the list of pending cases in the courts and it takes 25 to 30 years to get a civil case sorted out and by that time lawyer who fights the case will have his son enrolled as a junior lawyer....!

Why not? CM of Karnataka wants to settle Ambreesh's medical bill amounting to RS.1.16 crores, in spite of the fact that Ambreesh Fly is worth more than RS.240 crores. PM wants to install statue for RS.200 crores. Maya has already wasted crores of rupees on Statues in U.P. CM of Gujarat wants separate Aircraft. Akilesh already purchased Mercedes & Range Rovers spending crores of rupees. His father Mulayam who was involved with disproportion of assets case was once telling people it is not necessary to learn English & Computer whereas he sent his son to Australia to enroll in Computer studies. Reddy was travelling from Bellary to Bangalore in his personal helicopter to have break fast. He is to sit in his office on Golden Chair, Used Golden plats & spoons to eat. Ambani alone with his family lives in 21 storey building. Our Governors need big Raj Bhavans to stay & Mercedes cars to travel. And our 30% people r living below poverty line, millions go hungry to bed daily without proper food, water & shelter.
