Panaji, Aug 9: The mercy petition of an Austrian national, undergoing 12 years' sentence at central jail, aguada, was recommended by Goa cabinet to the state governor for his consideration.

"The Austrian government had approached the state cabinet several times with the mercy petition of their national, Bernard Mooshammar, who was caught with 1.3 kg of charas in his possession", Goa chief minister Pratapsingh Rane told reporters after the state cabinet meeting.

The Austrian national was arrested by Goa police on November 30, 1996.

He has already spent nine years and eight months in the jail.

"The Austrian government has several times followed up his mercy petition with the state cabinet hence we decided to recommend to the Governor to consider his petition", the chief minister said.
