Traditional industries theme of Kerala Science Congress

Thiruvananthapuram, July 16 (IANS): Traditional industries will be the focus of the 27th edition of the Kerala Science Congress (KSC) in Alappuzha from Jan 27 to 30, next year.

It will be organised by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE).

One of its major objectives will be to identify the impact and relevance of indigenous industrial practices and resources on Kerala's traditional industries such as coir, handloom and cashew.

More than 2,000 delegates, including researchers, teachers, scholars, and students, will attend.

The event conducted in association with KSCSTE's research and development centre -- the National Transportation Planning and Research Centre -- will be chaired by Tessy Thomas, a renowned scientist in India's missile programme and Project Director, Defence Research and Development Organisation.

"The congress will focus on finding out scientific solutions to ecological and social issues of Alappuzha," Thomas said Wednesday while addressing reporters here.

She also launched the official website of the 27th KSC and also the event logo and brochure.
