BSF foils infiltration bid in Kashmir

Jammu, July 21 (IANS): Alert BSF troopers Monday foiled an infiltration bid by armed guerrillas across the international border in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, police said.

"The Border Security Force (BSF) troopers noticed suspicious movement near the Karol Mathura outpost on the international border in Hiranagar sector in the afternoon," a senior police officer told IANS here.

"As the troopers realised it was a group of militants who were trying to sneak into the Indian side, they fired at the intruders who also retaliated with automatic gunfire but were finally forced to withdraw back into the Pakistani side," he added.

The police officer, however, refused to confirm reports that an infiltrator had been killed in the gunfight.

"That cannot be confirmed unless the body of the intruder is recovered," he said.
