Mangalore, Aug 14: In view of the 60 Independence Day celebrations the Dakshina Kannada police have made massive security arrangements. The district police have been put on vigil following the Mumbai attack.

According to SP B Dayananda, the venue of the I-Day celebrations (Nehru Maidan) will have extra security.

Security has been tightened wherein metal frame detector will be used to check every person who enters the venue.

The police dog squad and a bomb detection squad will also be used at the venue. Additional civil police constables, personnel from the District Armed Reserve, Karnataka State Reserve Police and Rapid Action Force too will be deployed, he said.

In order to decongest the venue, the vehicles proceeding from Clock Tower towards Hamilton Circle will be directed to A B Shetty circle towards Nehru statue and onwards via Rosario Church road. However, movement of vehicles between A B Shetty Circle and Hamilton Circle would be banned between 8 am to 11 am.

The SP has requested the co-operation of the public in ensuring security.
