Udupi, Aug 14: A sum of Rs 2.20 lac was released by the Karnataka state Waqf board for the development of 11 mosques and prayer halls in the district. Each mosque and prayer hall will get a grant of Rs 20,000.
Mohammadia of Kirimanjeshwara, Gausiya of Shiroor, Noor-ul-Islam Madrasa and Badria of Kundapur, Mohammadia of Akalabad, Jamia Masjid of Kannangar, Mohiddin of Padubidri, Hidayatullah Islam and Ibrahim Khaleel of Hejamadi, Jamia Masjid of Saccheripet and Hayatul Islam of Inna will get the grant.
Meanwhile, criticizing the move, the district unit of Hindu Yuva Sena alleged in a press release that the government was trying to appease Muslims and demanded the inclusion of mosques and churches under the purview of Common Religious Endowment Act.
