Air Algerie plane missing in west Africa

Algiers, July 24 (IANS): A passenger plane of Algeria's state-run Air Algerie was Thursday reported missing 50 minutes after taking off from Ouagadougou Airport in Burkina Faso, according to media.

"Air navigation services of Air Algerie have lost contact Thursday with AH5017 flight coming from Ouagadougou to Algiers, at around 1.55 a.m GMT, or 50 minutes after take-off," Xinhua reported citing an Air Algerie statement.

"In accordance with these developments, the company launches the emergency response plan," the statement said.

The statement did not say how many people were aboard the missing aircraft, but TSA news website reported that the plane was an Airbus A320, carrying 110 passengers.

TSA said that two emergency units have been set up by the airline authorities, one in Algiers and the other in Ouagadougou.
