Beltangady, Aug 15: Gold and silver ornaments which were stolen from teacher's house at Laila near here have now been found in an estate at Madikeri and have been handed over to Madikeri police.

Thieves who had broken open into the house of one Mohini had decamped with valuables and ornaments.  Mohini who is a Hindi teacher in Koyyur government school used to stay in a rented house at Laila.  The theft had taken place when she had gone to her home in Puttur on holidays.  A complaint in this regard had been filed in the Beltangady police station.

But the reports from Madikeri police station have confirmed that stolen ornaments were found in an estate.  The thief who had stolen the ornaments had entered an estate to hide them.  However, the estate owner who did not him started enquiring about his whereabouts. 

However, the thief who did not know anyone in the estate mistook the owner for manager and said that he had been called by the estate owner.  He also told that he is the relative of the estate owner without knowing that the person he was talking to was the owner of the estate.

When the estate owner went in to call the police, the thief dug a small pit in the estate and hid the ornaments there.  But by the time the police had come to the spot, the thief had fled the place.  The police then confiscated the ornaments which are yet to be handed over to Mohini.
