Mumbai, July 24 (IANS): Police in Mumbai Thursday booked an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer after a model accused him of raping her on several occasions, officials said.
Sunil Paraskar, deputy inspector general (DIG-protection of civil rights units), was charged with raping the woman while purportedly helping her.
A case was filed at the suburban Malwani police station in northwest Mumbai.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Ramesh Lohakare told media persons that "a first information report was lodged after a model complained she was sexually abused by Sunil Paraskar". He, however, declined to give more details.
The model alleged that Paraskar raped her when he was additional commissioner of police (north region), a few months ago, before he was transferred to the state police headquarters as DIG.
In her complaint, the woman said he raped her several times when she visited him with regard to some work, and submitted evidence of the sexual assault on her at a hotel in the suburbs.
State home ministry officials declined to comment on the issue, saying it was being investigated.
