Puttur, Aug 16: Whirlwind that swept through the entire Paddadka village near Nelyadi here caused havoc in the area toppling trees, electricity poles and blowing the tiles of the several houses on Monday August 14 night.

It was around 10 pm when most of the people were about to go to bed that whirlwind started.  Within few moments nearly 25 acres of agricultural land of the area was in total disarray.  Hundreds of coconut, betelnut, rubber, cashew and jackfruit trees were uprooted and were on the ground. 

The entire area was in total dark as electricity poles toppled and fell on the ground.  The houses of Kunhi Mohammad, Ilias, P M Thomas, Trasiamma, Annamma, Francis, Kurian, George, Joseph, Shantamma and few others too have been damaged.  In most cases roof tiles of the house have been blown away by the whirlwind.

The church and the anganwadi centre too have been damaged in the mayhem.  Several rubber farms have suffered huge loss.  The police and local leaders visited the place on Tuesday.  The loss has been estimated at Rs 25 lac.
