Bhatkal, Aug 20: Two youth, Adil Maliki and Ali Affan Ruknuddin of Usmaniya area under Nawayat Colony, Bhatkal won the Mega quiz competition. They received a cash prize of Rs 10,000 from chief guest Prof Abdul Kareem.


The quiz competition was organized by organized by Young Muslim Service Association (YMSA) on the occasion of Independence day celebration on August 15 in Bhatkal.

Out of 32 teams, 8 teams had entered semi finals. They are YMSA, YMSA Sharp, Usmaniya, Moon Star, Sapphire, Shri Guru Vidhiyadhiraj College (SGV), Friends and Lanka.

The semi final and final rounds were very tough and interesting. Wrong answers amounted to negative markings. After 2 rounds of semi final, 4 teams, namely YMSA, YMSA Sharp, Usmaniya and SGV, entered the final round. Neck-and-neck competition had made it difficult to guess who would eventually win the quiz.

Even in the final round, when only one question each for the team were left to be posed, the YMSA team was on top with a score of 120, but they lost 10 points for a wrong answer. Interestingly, Usmaniya whose points were 100, replied correctly, leading to their points to total 120 points, thus leaving YMSA behind.

The SGV was declared third while YMSA Sharp fourth.

Convener Abdur Raqeeb M J hosted an interest-sustaining quiz event, with Sameer Kobatte as quiz master. The questions from his laptop would appear on the screen placed in front of the participants. Suhaib Shabandari and Muzammil Ruknuddin conducted the quiz brilliantly. Afaaque Shopa was the scorer, Abdullah Damudi Observer and the professors of Anjuman College, Mehbood Malik and M M Dafadar, were the judges.

Professor of Nehru college, HubliAbdul Kareem, Bhatkal DySP Bhatkal Chandrashekar Prasad, former MLA J D Naik, Tanzeem's former general secretary Muallim Badrul Hassan, Rabita Society secretart Yaseen Askeri, members S P Farooque, Ateequr Rahman Muniri, Muhiddin Ruknuddin and others were present during the entire show.
