Mangalore, Aug 20: Under the leadership of Congress leader Ramanath Rai, the district Congress held a day-long silent protest in the city on Saturday August 19. The protest was against the increasing number of attacks on minority institutions by Sangh Parivar.
Rai condemned the rise in atrocities against the minorities in the district, Rai also pointing out the inaction of the police in controlling them.
The protest was held in front of the deputy commissioner's office.
Rai also said that Sangh Parivar has been promoting attacks on shops, restaurants and other business concerns owned by minority communities. He also blamed the JD (S)- BJP coalition government for mismanagement of the district.
Former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, MCC corporators, Congress leaders Ivan D'Souza, MP B Ibrahim, MLA K Abhayachandra Jain former MP Vinay Kumar were also present at the protest.
