Bangalore, Aug 21: Acclaimed musician Puttur Narasimha Nayak, along with 17 other artistes, has been chosen for the Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy honorary awards for the year 2006-07. Katha keertana exponent A R Puttachar has also been chosen for this award.

The other awardees include:
Carnatic music - R N Srilatha, Mysore (vocal); B D Lakshman, Bangalore (vocal); K V Raja Iyengar, Bangalore (Violin) and Ullur Nagendra Udupa, Bangalore (mridanga).

Hindustani music - Subrahmanya Mahabaleshwara Bhat, Uttara Kannada (vocal); Muddu Mohan, Bangalore (vocal); R H More, Bagalkot (tabla) and Shadakshari Gawai, Gadag (harmonium).

Dance - B V Ramanamurthy, Bangalore; Dr Sarvottam D Kamath, Bangalore and C Mahadevanna, Bangalore.

Light music - Narayanrao Mane and Parvathisutha, both from Bangalore.

Katha keertana - S N Suresh, Bangalore.

Gamaka - Markandeya Avadhani, Mattur.

Musicologist - S A Tapale, Gulbarga.

The academy chose the awardees at its general body meeting here on Saturday August 19, presided over by chairman Rajshekar Mansur.

The honorary award winners will be presented with a cash award of Rs 10,000 and a citation while annual award winners will receive a cash award of Rs 5,000 and a citation.

The awards will be presented in the second week of October.
