Kathmandu, Aug 4 (IANS): Most educational institutions here were closed Monday due to "problems in transportation management" in view of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to different parts of city, a daily said.

The schools will remain shut Tuesday as well, The Himalayan Times said late Sunday.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day official visit to Nepal that ends Monday. This is the first bilateral visit by an Indian prime minister to Nepal in 17 years.

The daily quoted Kathmandu's District Education Officer Shankar Gautam as saying that the school authorities' decision to shut down schools in Kathmandu and Lalitpur was "spontaneous" after "citing difficulties in transportation management".

Gautam was quoted as saying that closing the schools "was the wish of hundreds of parents too".
